        On March 26, 1999, Governor Kenny C. Guinn appointed Donald H. Baepler, Ph.D., as a public member of the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners.  Dr. Baepler will fill the position recently vacated by Victor Scaramosino of Las Vegas, who resigned from the board due to health circumstances.

        Dr. Baepler is presently the Director of the Barrick Museum of Natural History on the campus of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.  He was President of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas from 1973 to 1978 and Chancellor of the University of Nevada system from 1978 to 1981.  In 1981, Dr. Baepler returned to the University of Nevada- Las Vegas as a professor of Biology, Director of the Barrick Museum of Natural History and Director of the Harry Reid Center for Environmental Studies, where he was responsible for the administration of the museum and center with divisions in Anthropological Studies, Biological Assessments, Geology, Environmental Resources, and Chemical Analysis.  He also taught and supervised graduate students. 

        Dr. Baepler holds a Ph.D. in Vertebrate Zoology from the University of Oklahoma.  In 1981, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science degree by the University of Nevada-Las Vegas after his service as Chancellor.
