Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners Elects New Officers

At its June 2, 2001 meeting, the board elected Cheryl Hug-English, M.D., as its new President. Dr. Hug-English is from Reno and has served on the board for 5 years and is the Director of Student Health Services for the University of Nevada, Reno and on the faculty of the University of Nevada School of Medicine.

The board elected Jaculine C. Jones, Ed.D., a public member of the board, as Vice President. Dr. Jones is from Fallon and has served on the board for 5 years and has served on both the Investigative and Internal Affairs Committees of the board. Dr. Jones is a retired principal from the Washoe County School District and presently acts as an educational consultant.

The board elected Joel N. Lubritz, M.D., from Las Vegas, as its Secretary-Treasurer. Dr. Lubritz has served on the board for 4 years, and he is an Otolaryngologist. As Secretary-Treasurer of the board, he also serves as Chairman of the board’s Investigative Committee.

 

Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners Revokes 2 Licenses
and Enters into 1 Stipulation for Settlement

At its meeting on Saturday, June 2, 2001, the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners, after review and consideration of cases presented at formal hearings, adjudicated cases against 3 Nevada licensed medical doctors:

Philip G. Wagman, M.D.

The board accepted and approved a stipulation for settlement of a formal complaint against Dr. Wagman, and Ordered that Dr. Wagman - having not contested the allegations in a complaint, that, on May 10, 2000, the State Medical Board of Ohio suspended his license to practice medicine in that state for an indefinite period of time, but not less than 6 months – be placed on probation on terms and conditions and for the length of time as set out in the Step II Consent agreement entered into between Dr. Wagman and the State Medical Board of Ohio.

Gary F. Roberts, M.D.

The board found Dr. Roberts guilty of engaging in the act of renewing a license to practice medicine in the state of Nevada by misrepresentation, or false, misleading, or inaccurate statement, a violation of the provisions of NRS 630.304(1).

The board entered an Order revoking Dr. Roberts’ license to practice medicine in the state of Nevada, issued him a public reprimand, and ordered him to pay all costs associated with the investigation and prosecution of the case against him.

 

Jeffrey Stein, M.D.

The board found Dr. Stein guilty of engaging in the act of renewing a license to practice medicine in the state of Nevada by misrepresentation, or false, misleading, or inaccurate statement, a violation of the provisions of NRS 630.304(1).

The board also found Dr. Stein guilty of engaging in conduct intended to deceive, a violation of the provisions of NRS 630.306(2)(a).

The board entered an Order revoking Dr. Stein’s license to practice medicine in the state of Nevada, issued him a public reprimand, and ordered him to pay all costs associated with the investigation and prosecution of the case against him.
